I wasn't there.
I was safe in my living room over half the continent away in another country. I watched, stupified, terrified, paralyzed as the second plane hit on CNN. My first thought was that I needed to go directly to my children's schools and bring them home safe to... and then it hit, safe to where? Where was safe?
This hangs with me. Not every day, certainly many days, even weeks and months pass and I don't think of it at all. Then I glance at the calendar or I read a blog entry somewhere and I revisit that feeling.
I never want to feel that way again.
